Why Drone Pilots are Seeking for Licenses

There are hundreds of people who are looking forward to becoming drone pilots and are rushing to get the necessary licensing under the United States regulations. This is definitely going to open a lot of opportunities in the sky.

In the recent past, there were publication of rules that replaced the ad hoc standards and the system of waivers that hindered the growth of their industry. However, these rules do not affect hobbyist who can still fly even without a license.

The drones can potentially transform the way we fly and they also come with many potential benefits to the society. Framers can use drones to monitor their fields while telecom companies can use them for inspecting cell phone towers. Media outlets can use the unmanned planes for video-taping the news events. This is with a lot of ease as well as lower cost as compared to when using the fixed-wing airplanes or even helicopters.

Other fields that are exploring the options of using drones include construction, insurance, electric power companies. The new regulations have also opened doors for the small service companies and small operators.

Previously, the FAA only required the commercial drone operators to have the traditional license of a pilot. This is something that doesn’t only take months but can cost thousands of dollars to get. Now all that is needed is the testing cost of around $150 even though there are some who are choosing to pay more for the study course.

However, there are some in the drone industry who feel that the government may be unable to keep to speed with the demand or even that there  may be floods of new users without the necessary skills who will join the field. Unlike the other drone pilot certification that are issued by the FAA, the agency requires that the drone operators should demonstrate that they are able to fly.
